Beauvoir's argument throughout this essay is that humanity is being defined by man, so man defines woman and it is a woman's job to break this way of thought and liberate themselves.

Throughout this class we have seen where a woman stands in society, not only today but in the past. We have lacked the ability to declare our independence and as someone who values my independence and rights completely, it is a serious shame that we are still less then the man. I have reflected on my own dreams, desires, and hopes for myself in this class and the thought of working my ass off through college and getting the same job as another man, but still getting paid less is disgusting and unfair. Being a woman isn't any less, and we don't "think with our glands," we have a brain too that is not any smaller or less significant then the man's. Our place in society is rising but we must not back track and keep moving forward.
