Disco Blogpost April 3, 2012

Why does disco appeal to more groups of people than Rock and Roll, which appeals to mostly men?

I think that disco appeals to a bigger range of people because it is made up of infectious rhythms and beats that everyone just wants to dance to. It is open to both genders and it included a way for female singers to be noticed, not just male. Rock and Roll, on the other hand, was targeted only towards male singers. It is very aggressive usually and tends to have many masculine traits to it.

How did disco help shape modern dance clubs today that play rap and hip-hop?

Disco helped shape modern dance clubs today because it is electronic music that is pre-recorded and put together to be played back later. It is not necessarily as good when it is performed live because it’s not meant to be put on live at concerts, unlike country or jazz. This is exactly how rap and hip-hop music is as well; DJ’s put the pre-recorded tracks on in the dance clubs. Disco is a genre that got everyone to just want to dance to the beat, and not necessarily focus only on the lyrics. A lot of rap and hip-hop songs are so great because they have amazing beats in the background.
