Toulmin Model of Argument

Arianna:

Claim: It is going to be even harder after current events for a woman to get a job in a male dominated field.

Data: Jessica Dorrell had used a romantic relationship with the head coach to get a job in football.

Warrant: Since Jessica used an inappropriate relationship to propel herself into a field where women aren’t common, she made it harder for women in the future to get into it.

Backing: Jessica used her affair with the head coach to get her job in the football profession and she had never worked in the field before.  Men working in football will now be hesitant to hire a woman to work with them for fear that a scandal will arise and disgrace the sports team.

Rebuttal: It will be harder for a woman to get a job in a male dominated profession unless they can be trusted with the position and there are background checks done to make sure they never would have done something to make them not be trusted.

Qualifier: It will be even more difficult in the future to get a job as a female in a male’s position.

Jillian:

Claim: that i have taken steps forwards towards becoming a better reader and writer

Data: i have read articles and novels throughout the semester and i have written papers that have strengthened my writing skills

Warrant: through writing and reading papers throughout this semester i have become a better reader and writer

Backing: the more reading you do the better you become at reading, and the more writing you do, and since i have written 3 papers, the better writer you become especial since i went to office hours along with going to the writing center

Rebuttal: i still struggle with writing papers as well as starting the writing process

Qualification: i have become a better write and reader but i am still not excellent at it because i need more practice with reading and writing

Hilary:

Claim: I will be a good art director.

Data: I’ve worked on many short films and will pursue a degree in Media and Information with a specialization is Fiction Film Production.

Warrant: I’ve worked on many short films and plan on attaining a college degree in Media and Information and specializing in Fiction Film Production so I can be qualified to be an art director.

Backing: Successful art directors have a keen passion for film and attain a college education in film production.

Rebuttal: It is a challenging and very competitive field.

Qualifier: I will most certainly become a great art director.
