Chapter 11 - 2/14/12

Honestly, I don’t believe I learned much at all from this chapter. It was confusing. The chapter focused more on different romances from different books. The only thing I can say made me understand gender better, was the first page and how they talked about Northanger Abbey’s first chapter. It says ‘One is not born a woman, one becomes one’. I believe this is a good statement surrounding how gender was back then because at a young age it didn’t matter how you acted or the way you presented yourself. But at a certain age, you are supposed to be learning how to become a woman and be able to attract men. More importantly, you are supposed to be learning how attract men that will take care of you.
