Gender
In the Gender chapter, the author discusses how Austen lacks a sense of romance between characters in her novels. I would ultimately have to disagree with this. The author states, "romance in Austen is not easy or 'magical'." I feel that the romance in Pride and Prejudice is somewhat 'magical'. The fact that Austen makes two of her characters, in Pride and Prejudice, that despise each other in the beginning of the novel fall in love at the end creates something quite unreal. It gives the readers a sense of hope for love and a deep feel for romance that the author claims Austen doesn't grasp. I believe Austen doesn't use extreme romantic settings, but she does grasp an overall romantic story and ending.
