In chapter nine of the Cambridge companion it really pointed out interesting things on how important money is in there society. For instance, everyone knows every ones salaries and this is taken into account a great deal. How much money you make or have dictates who you marry, what parties you go to, and what your reputation is. Also even when money was not brought up wealth was showed by other things such as an education, carriages, and your estate. These were very important and having money automatically made you very respected and gave you power. Some other things I noticed from reading is that old money gives you more power than new money.
