Chapter 11 “Gender”

-Did you disagree with anything the author stated?

From reading Chapter 11 “Gender” in the Cambridge Companion, I understand the use of gender better, although it was kind of confusing. This chapter did broaden the concept of gender within Jane Austen’s book but it also talked a lot about romance. In this chapter there were many things that I disagreed with. In the section on Austen’s resistance to romance, there were things that i didn't agree with. I believe that this novel is about romance and there are many characters in the book that do have love. Some characters don’t use love the right way but there are those that do. Yes, Jane Austen used her way of romance differently than other authors of books that I have read, but there is still romance that is going on. Jane Austen used her good writing to in a way trick the readers or have the readers wanting more. You feel like one thing is going to happen but then she has something else happen.
