chapter 9 moneyyy

How did chapter 9 contribute to your understanding of how you might talk about money in relation to Jane Austen's novels?
This chapter made me understand the relation of money and rank. Depending on ones yearly income, they will have a certain name like lady, sir, or lord. It also shows you the different types of things a family owns and how it relates to their yearly income. Like if one owns a carriage, they probably make 2,000 a year or above, or if they have several carriages they probably make even more like lady catherine. learning about how they view money makes me realize that this society cares too much about money and rank, since they go hand in hand. This chapter also taught me that the reason why Mrs. Bennet wants her daughters to marry someone who is rich is so they will be better off and not have to worry about their income. She also just wants them to be happy, even though happiness varies from different people.

  1. I really liked how you made the connection with Mrs. Bennet about the money. I also realized that Mrs. Bennet wants her daughters to be married with a richer man not only for the status, but for the money that she could obtain. I think it emphasizes the manipulation in her effect. Going along with chapter 10, occupations are a huge point that Mrs. Bennet is trying to gain for her daughters. She wants her daughters to gain a higher class through their husband's occupations.

This may sound repetitive to what you said, I just tried to say it in a different way because I really liked your point.
