Gender

Gender-how do you understand it better now?

Jane Austen wanted gender equality and she showed it through her books.  She was "careful to commit to no illusions about the apparatus of marriage or other institutionalized forms of gender difference."  She tries to show it how it is and promote equality in the character relationships.  She also uses gender as the basis for comedy in some of her works.  Austen also has a resistance to romance and she leaves resolutions out when it comes to love.
