2/2/12 Chapter 9

My understanding of money in this novel has grown from reading chapter 9. I learned more about what people have with more money. Jane Austen spoke of what each charter made each year or they hinted at the things they owned. Reading the discriptions of what a family would own at certain incomes made it easier for me to get a better picture of where they live. Also with the discription of characters homes I could decide how much they made. This chapter will help me to describe the impact of money in this novel.

  1. I agree about how this chapter helped illustrate the physical differences in living styles between families of different fortunes. Money was everything, and we learned in Chapter 10 that there were very distinct careers that made certain incomes accordingly. We learned that money was usually based off taking care of the land and estates under one's name.
    Also, it's known now that men and women marry for security in their social status.
