The Cambridge Companion Chapter 9 2/2/12

Chapter 9 of The Cambridge Companion helped contribute to my understanding of how I might talk about money in relation to Jane Austen's novels by thoroughly explaining what each class of money represents. I now have an idea of the kind of lifestyle a character in one of Austen's novels may have based on how many pounds they make or have available to them each year. Throughout the chapter, I also learned that the topic of money is a major aspect in many of Austen's novels, not just Pride and Prejudice. This is important to know for writing my paper because I now know that wealth and money are major aspects of Jane Austen novels, not just part of the Pride and Prejudice story line. I liked this chapter more than the previous ones we have read so far because I feel like I learned a lot of valuable information that helps make the story easier to understand and adds more meaning and dimensions to the plot, I wouldn't have learned this without reading chapter 9.

  1. I agree with you because I felt the same way bout Jane Austen's theories and use of money and wealth as major themes for her novels. This chapter will especially help when writing our second paper because it has many examples for how Jane Austen uses manipulation with money.
