Chapter 9 "Money" Quiz

Chapter 9 "Money" gave me a better idea of what kind of money each of the characters have. We understand who is wealthy and those who are not, but we didn't have an exact idea. I also have never really been clear on the concept of "pounds" but it was explained very well. This chapter also showed how money is basically the deciding factor or plays a huge role in everything. Your rank, marriage, property, respect, and happiness is all surrounded by money. A rank is obviously based off the social class you are in, which is based off money. Who you marry is not based on true love, it's based on how much money they have. You look at someone's property before you look at them. Relationships are also based off money, even friendships. Like Miss Bingley would never be friends with the Bennett sisters because of their lack of money. Overall the chapter gave me a better understanding to the concept of pounds and showed me how character's and relationships in Jane Austen's novel are superficial or deep, depending on how important they believe money/rank is.

  1. I absolutely agree with you. This chapter made me realize how people acted at that time. It is weird for me that before the marriage women would calculate what they would be able to afford after their marriage.
