Amy Tan

What about Tan’s piece makes it a compelling autobiography?
Tan’s piece is a compelling autobiography because she uses specific details that will draw the reader in. Instead of telling a broad overview of her whole childhood, she takes specific examples and situations and really expands on them. I think that this makes the reader interested in reading more. Although Tan’s mother was a traditional Chinese mother, she embraced the American culture, and wanted to thrust it upon her daughter. Tan, who was born in America didn’t like her mother’s “American Dream” and rebelled by not living up to her full potential.
