I
felt very overwhelmed when reading Chapter 3. Having not read Pride and Prejudice I could not follow
the characters because I was not familiar with them. I did learn that Jane
Austen’s characters are very strong women. They are intelligent, and not as
obedient as other woman of the time. I think this will help with writing my
paper because the theme is “sex, power, and money”. I learned most of the
characters in Jane Austen’s books go against the normal “sex, money, and power”
roles. All of the characters played specific roles that Austen felt needed to
be played out. I read that Austen modeled her book more like a play, rather than
a novel. This method helped her to convey her message to her audience more
effectively because it is what she had experience in.
