I think what made Amy Tan’s autobiography compelling was the true emotion that she put into her words.  She was raw with her emotions toward her mother and how she really felt about disappointing her mother. She was very forthcoming with how she thought that she couldn’t be anything other than herself even though her mom wanted her to be this prodigy. She was very truthful about how she felt about the piano lessons and how adamant she was to do everything she could to not learn how to play. Her story is something that a lot of people could connect with, having that overbearing mother who wants you to do things even if you don’t want to do them. She was very prideful and let her pride get in the way of living up to her full potential.
