Stone Soup

Kingsolver's "Stone Soup" is based on the definition of a family and what it has became today. She describes how a split, gay, or mixed family have just as much function as the "traditional" type of family. As I read this piece, her literacy didn't seem like a hobby but her ability to make her family situation as a divorced parent function just as good as the american definition of a traditional family. I really loved the peice, but I do disagree with the fact divorce is an okay thing to do. I do think marriages go to divorce too quickly. Depending on the situation, some are too lazy to actually go through family counseling, or try their best to fix the issue. If it is based on something severe like abuse, or something less severe like realizing they are gay or truly unhappy with their decision to marry that individual, then of course divorce is the right decision. If a marriage does all they can, then a divorce is obviously what they have to do. I really like how she said along with divorced family, blended and gay families are just as functional too.
