Barbra Kingsolver- literacy

Barbra Kingsolver is describing the literacy of family happiness.  Just because Barbra's marriage failed, and people in today's society now judge her for raising her children as a "product of a divorce", she still believes that her family is happy.  She chose divorce so that her family would be better off than when her and her husband were together.  Happiness doesn't always mean you have to be the family of paper dolls, it means you need to survive the obstacles life throws at you and move on.  My first reaction to this piece was that it was a great representation to today's society. Many people live in poverty, divorce, or sickness, and they are still able to live their lives "happy".  Happiness isn't a specific recipe.  It's like that one recipe that every family has, just with different spices in the pot. Barbra Kingsolver conveyed this concept brilliantly in this touching piece.
