"Two Kinds" Quickwrite 1/12/11
"Two Kinds" by Amy Tan is a compelling autobiography for several reasons. Amy Tan writes about her life in a style that is interesting. She starts the story by giving background information on her parents and the reasons that they came to America and then picks up with her own story. Throughout the bulk of the story the mother tries to make her daughter into any sort of a prodigy. I liked how the story explained the different ways that the mother tried to make the daughter into a prodigy. There was really good emotion, description and imagery throughout the piece and I could easily picture what was going on. I also liked how the ending really tied the whole piece together. As I approached the end of the story I began to think that there was really no point to the information I had read previously, but once the names of the music pieces were revealed, everything made sense.
