Stone Soup- January 17th, 2012

Barbara Kingsolver describes knowing divorce and going through divorce as a family as her literacy. She understands the ins and outs and effects of the divorce. I liked her piece and how she displayed divorce as a hardship that people don't understand unless they go through themselves. But, then again I also liked how she criticized the "institution" of divorce. She tries to explain that it is not the end all be all ending to the world and people should not think of it as a curse. In general I enjoyed how she related her story to the story of the army at the end of her piece, it felt like a story within a story, making it more interesting. Overall, my reaction was that I agreed with her ideas and I like how she critiqued our culture even though she is apart of it.
