"Stone Soup" 1/17/12

The literacy in "Stone Soup" by Barbara Kingsolver is that there is different types of family and marriage may not always work but that does not leave the family broken. There is the nuclear family that Kingsolver talks about and how people believe that this is the only secure type of family.
Overall I liked this piece and thought that Kingsolver brought up good ideas. People tend to look at divorce as a marriage that failed and sometimes just believe that the couple just gave up. She brings up her divorce and how she tried everything to make it work but there was no way to save the marriage. When people divorce there should be support for the people that are involved, even the children instead of people just giving them space. I do think that a nuclear family can be more stable but it can also be unstable. As long as the parent or parents can be good role models and help their kids succeed in life then I think that the family is a good, stable family.
