My general reaction to this piece: I thought that Stone Soup was a well written story about how the images of society are different than the reality of a situation. It was interesting to hear from the point of view of someone who tried to conform to these societal ideals, however was unable to, and was therefore forced to see life from different eyes. She saw the life of a divorced woman, something she never wanted or thought she would be.

Stone Soup 1/17
In the piece Stone Soup, by Barbara Kingsolver, she is describing the concept of family. She explains that the "ideal" image of family is like a family of dolls -- a mom, a dad, and a sibling -- however, the reality of that is slim. So many families today are made up of two dads, or two moms, or a grandma and grandpa, or aunt and uncle, or just one mom or dad. She explains that no family is a perfect, and each is complete with its own unique set of flaws, and although they are not always easy flaws to overcome, they are part of life, and part of a modern day family.
